AI visibility for tradespeople

When a homeowner asks AI for a tradesperson.

AI visibility for tradespeople matters when a homeowner with a leak, a fault or a missing tile asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude who to call. We check whether your business comes up, which sources each assistant cites and what would help first. The first check costs nothing.

Example questions

Questions homeowners ask.

Homeowners ask about the job in front of them, often urgently and often from a phone. We use questions like these, with [your town] replaced by the area you cover.

  • My boiler is leaking in [your town]. Who can come out today?

  • Recommend an electrician in [your town] to fit an EV charger.

  • Who are reliable roofers in [your town] for a flat roof repair?

  • Find a plumber near [your town] who does full bathroom installations.

  • Which electricians in [your town] do EICR certificates for landlords?

  • Who can I trust to fix a leaking gutter in [your town]?

Why trade questions move fast.

A homeowner with water coming through the ceiling does not compare twenty websites. They want two or three names and a phone number. In our checks, assistants answering urgent trade questions lean on review platforms and local listings, and say little about businesses that have only a basic web page.

Many tradespeople get most of their work through word of mouth and a single directory profile. That can be enough, but it leaves the public record of the business thin. If your profile lists one town and you cover six, an assistant has no reason to mention you for the other five.

We look at your trade the way a customer describes it. Someone asks about an EV charger, not about an electrical contractor. Matching those everyday phrases on your site and profiles is often the cheapest improvement available.

What we check

What we check for tradespeople.

We check the public places a customer's question could lead to, starting with the ones that cost you nothing to fix.

  • Trade directories

Whether your business has a complete, current profile on the directories customers use in your area, such as Checkatrade and TrustATrader, where you are a member.

  • Map listings

Your Google Business Profile and Bing Places entry: service areas, opening hours, photos of real jobs and a phone number that matches the one on your van.

  • Your website or profile page

Whether it lists each job you take on and each town you cover, in the words customers use. If you have no website, we tell you whether one would help.

  • Structured data

Whether your site uses schema.org markup for your trade, with your services, the areas you cover and how to reach you.

Method

Ask, record, improve, re-check.

For a trade business, we usually choose one urgent job, one planned job and one question about the towns you cover. Each runs six times on ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, and we list every business and source that comes up.

Questions

Questions from your sector.

I work alone and do not have a website. Is this still worth doing?

Often, yes. The check shows which businesses and sources come up for your jobs. If listings and profiles are carrying the answers in your area, that is where we would start, not with a new website.

Do I need to pay for more directory listings?

Not necessarily. We record which sources the assistants cite for your questions. If a paid listing keeps appearing and you are not on it, we say so, and the decision is yours.

I cover a wide area. Which towns should I pick?

Pick the towns where you want more work, not the ones where you already have plenty. The three free questions can be split across different towns.
